McDonald's USA

McDonald’s has participated in targeted advertising for several years. “365 Black,” dedicated to “celebrating the achievements of the African-American communtiy 365 days of the year” is an extension of that practice. And, while I’m all for businesses — even McDonald’s — giving back to the communities in which they do business, the blurb on the McDonald’s main site sounds a little menacing:

“I once heard a story…’Whatever blooms from the Baobab is given back to the earth, because the mighty tree never forgets its roots.’ Like the might Baobab, McDonald’s and I will not be moved.”

Note: this appears in the “fun” section of the McDonald’s homepage. Note: this sounds supsiciously like a riff on the lyrics to the folk song “We Shall Not Be Moved,” but I really refuse to believe that McDonald’s is engaged in fighting for anyone’s freedom.

And, in other McNews, a McDonald’s franchise in Alabama is installing a bronze bust of Ronald Reagan. Apparently, Reagan once ate at that particular franchise. Just…wow.
