if there’s a rock ‘n’ roll heaven

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced this year’s inductees. Blondie, the Sex Pistols, Black Sabbath, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Miles Davis made the cut. For a band or solo artist to be eligible, 25 years have to have passed since the release of their first album.
Even though she’s well into retirement age, Blondie singer and former Playboy bunny Deborah Harry still adds a bunch of sex appeal to the roster. Also noteworthy is the fact that Harry is the sole female performer in the roster.
Granted, gender equity has never been one of rock music’s strong suits. At the moment, the gender divide can be viewed in part as historical, since relatively few women were recognized as “significant” in the early ’80s, but it will be interesting to see if in the year 2020, there is a sudden influx of women in the Hall of Fame due to the glut of Gen X female singer-songwriters and the significance of the riot grrl movement.
