This ad from Nike seems to be making a soft sell for anal sex. When I stare at the ad long enough, I can almost here someone whining, “C’mon, just do it.”
Additionally, the ad carefully co-opts feminist body politics. It seems to be saying, sure, you can have a big ass, but it better be a muscular ass, and don’t you dare have an inch of cellulite. Nike pretends to be showing more realistic images of women by showing “athletes.” However, these body shapes are just flat unattainable for most women, including women who play sports at very high levels.
If that wasn’t offensive enough, the text of the ad is utterly gag-worthy. Her ass is her “ambassador” to folks walking behind her? It allows her to win fights with skinny bitches at Macy’s clearance sales? If wolf-whistles on the way to lunch and sale-rack altercations are the wages of body empowerment, count me out.
