think pink

the pink nun

You know you’ve arrived when you get celebrated in limited-edition shoe form by the likes of John Fluevog. Using this standard of judgement, the Pink Nun has in fact, arrived.

The Pink Nun isn’t here to preach at you, she’s here to try to convince you to “Respect yourself before you wreck yourself,” when it comes to sex. She conveys the sort of common sense sexual code of ethics that doesn’t make me want to smack my head against a wall, saying things like, “‘It’s not how much you can get away with, but ‘What is the best thing to do?’”

Sure, the Nun is working from a Christian frame of reference, but she’s certainly not on the conservative side of the spectrum. She believes that her ideas can be applied to any type of a relationship, though she acknowledges her message is primarily intended to target heterosexuals.

From the Pink Nun’s website:

“The Pink Nun’s message is calling people to take control, not become victims, and demand respect for themselves. She believes
1. there IS such a thing as right and wrong choices,
2. that choices have consequences and
3. there are ways we should restrict ourselves so we do not harm ourself or others.
The pink nun promotes a self respect, self-control, feminist view of body image and sexual choices. She calls people to remember what love, sexual intimacy and marriage are meant for in their purist sense.”

I don’t agree with everything she has to say, but this is a lady dedicated to presenting her point of view in a way that is fun and accessible without beating people over the head, and to that I say, “Amen, Sister.”

Given that the Virgin de Guadalupe looks pretty much like a vulva, what are we to make of a Pink Nun? Oy.
