SXSW Interactive coming right up

SXSW '09

I’ve gone to SXSW in some shape or form for at least the past 6 years, beginning with the two years I managed to snag press credentials from my college newspaper and got to run around going to music showcases getting more sunburned and hungover as the week progressed. The past few years, I’ve mainly gone to freebie day shows and afterparties and helped out with events for Austinist doing really glam things like working the door.

This year, I’m going to be on a panel at SXSW Interactive, which I’m pretty excited about. The title of the panel is “Are Women Taken More Seriously on the Web?” It’s at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, March 16, and Laura Roeder of Roeder Studios is moderating (she also did all the heavy lifting for organizing). I’ll be talking about blogging, the professional risks of having an internet life, and why my mother posts to football discussion boards as a man.

Of course, I’m excited about participating, but I’m also looking forward to the festival more generally — it’s nice to have the opportunity to participate in something that’s got more popular appeal than the average academic conference.
