On my video

The above is 30 minutes of openings for cartoons from the ’80s spliced together into one overwhelming montage. If there’s one lesson that can be taken from this, it’s that synthesizers are awesome. While I had never seen a good number of these, I have fond memories of a number of them. My favorite was the semi-surreal Kidd Video, the premise of which was that a band of hip teenagers got sucked into “the Flipside” by some sort of evil executive type in a hovercraft wheelchair who was intent on making them his “musical slaves.” It was the era of MTV. Things like this made sense at the time.

I like that they’re saved by a pixie dressed like Jane Fonda. I actually remember a fair number of music videos playing during the program, things like Joan Jett’s “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll,” but that could be nostalgia getting the best of me.
