Goodnight, Ms. Ivins

Molly Ivins

“I dearly love the state of Texas, but I consider that a harmless perversion on my part, and discuss it only with consenting adults,” Molly Ivins, March 1992

At the age of 62, columnist and amazing Texan Molly Ivins has gone on to the big newspaper desk in the sky. I’m going to miss her. She was funny and she meant well. She seemed to have faith in people, and she wrote because she loved to; it’s obvious in every one of her stories, and obvious, too, in the fact that she wrote her last two columns in January of this year. In the month that cancer claimed her friend and former Texas governor Ann Richards a few months ago, Ivins said, “I’m sorry to say (cancer) can kill you, but it doesn’t make you a better person.”
