the blog will change your life

Although when writing about music I’m as prone to acts of total wankery as the next self-important person, The Shins Will Change Your Life fills me with glee. The blog excerpts bits of music criticism that are so exultant that they seem to foretell the imminent coming of Christ or some similar figure, rather than just announcing that the latest White Stripes effort is pretty damn good.

The scope of The Shins Will Change Your Life is broad, meaning you can read bits of ebullient prose from sources ranging from PopMatters to the Village Voice to a smattering if individual writers’ blogs. And, while I know the intent of the blog is to lift up these examples for ridicule, I also find it kind of nice to see critics gushing. It reassures me that people write about music because they love it, not because they want to see mass culture ripped to shreds.

Then again, maybe I just want that reassurance so I can keep using words like ebullient when committing acts of wankery and/or criticism.
