Slacker

Slacker turned 15. I first saw Richard Linklater’s Gen X anthem in an undergrad class dedicated to that generation — we also listened to Bikini Kill and read Douglas Coupland, and I’m sure that the chorus of “Suck My Left One” blasting through the halls of the humanities building raised some eyebrows.

I consider Slacker one of those films that everyone should watch, even though I personally don’t enjoy it. It’s funny and all, but it takes the non-narrative nature of the work of the French New Wave to an extreme. But, you know, way to stay important, underfunded indie film celebrating unemployed losers.
