Paging Dr. Bob

As a child, I loved “The Bob Newhart Show.” I’m not sure why, exactly, though the fact that he lived in a city and worked as a shrink and drank after work probably seemed deeply romantic at the time.
Anyhow, I just got pointed to this amazing send-up to Dr. Robert Hartley and his fabulous wardrobe, featuring such tidbits as:
“Can a pink shirt be understated? I think so. Can a whimsical pajama top be worn with a suit jacket? Indeed it can. Can a woman be taken to heights of sexual pleasure so intense, she loses all sense of time and space? You betcha.”
The humor has a bit of Ron Burgundy in it, but I’ll take it.

If I can bring some joy to another Bob Newhart fan, then my job is done. To be honest, I was originally going to do a completely straight homage to the Newhart style. I loved that show growing up, and my appreciation is completely devoid of irony or kitsch. To some folks “The 70’s” is all about The Brady Bunch and tacky disco nostalgia. The picture I have in my head of growing up in the 70’s is Bob Newhart all the way.
